one house at a time
Our Story
We acquire and restore Kyoto's machiya — one-house dwellings — preserving their character while quietly modernizing them for long stays. Each property is chosen for its neighborhood, not just its address, so guests leave with a real sense of the city and the community around them.

"Staying in a Kyotofish house felt less like renting a room but more like being handed the keys to a small piece of the city."

About Us
Kyotofish (慶有魚) restores machiya — Kyoto's traditional one-house townhomes — and operates each as a single, private stay. Where hotels standardize, we keep what makes a house particular: its garden, its beams, its street.
We cherish the bonds formed between people. Through our accommodations, we aim to help build connections between our guests and the local community — an idea we return to in how we choose properties, brief renovations, and welcome every stay.
Preservation
Original structure and materials guide every renovation decision.
Community
Each property stays woven into its neighborhood, not sealed off from it.
Restraint
Subtle, considered spaces — nothing added for show.

Kyoto, Japan
Kyoto is a city of distinct rhythms: temple approaches waking before sunrise, merchant streets gathering pace by noon, and lantern-lit alleys settling into quiet after dark. Its historic center is compact, yet every district carries its own craft traditions, food culture, landscape, and way of living.
Our destination guides move beyond the landmarks to introduce the streets, seasonal details, and local places that make each part of Kyoto feel particular.
